How we estimate your new pension

We follow what the 7th CPC did, since the 8th CPC has not reported:

  1. Basic pension × fitment factor. ₹25,000 × 1.92 = ₹48,000.
  2. We assume the minimum and maximum rise by the same factor (not decided). At the 7th CPC the minimum rose from ₹3,500 to ₹9,000.
  3. Additional pension after 80 is worked out on the new basic pension.
  4. DR starts again at 0% and then rises every six months with prices, as in 2016.
  5. The commutation cut does not change and stops 15 years after you commuted.

Questions pensioners ask

How much will pension increase in the 8th Pay Commission?

At the 7th CPC, the basic pension of those who retired before 1 January 2016 was multiplied by 2.57 (or notionally fixed, whichever was higher). The 8th CPC is expected to multiply basic pension by its fitment factor too, but that is not decided. Enter your basic pension above to see each factor.

What could the minimum pension be?

Minimum pension is ₹9,000 today. If it rises by the same factor, it would be about ₹16,500 at a fitment factor of 1.83, ₹17,300 at 1.92, ₹22,200 at 2.46, ₹23,200 at 2.57 and ₹25,800 at 2.86.

Will Dearness Relief (DR) become zero?

At past commissions, DR restarted at 0% when basic pension was raised, then rose every six months. That is why total pension rises less than basic pension.

How much additional pension is paid after 80?

20% of basic pension at 80, 30% at 85, 40% at 90, 50% at 95 and 100% at 100. It would apply to the new basic pension as well.

What happens to the commutation cut?

The commuted amount stays the rupee amount fixed when you commuted and stops after 15 years. DR is paid on the full, uncommuted basic pension.

Will family pension also rise?

Yes; at past commissions family pension was revised in the same way. Choose “Family pension” above and enter the basic family pension.
